Some Like it Hot

For many of you when you hear the words “Some like it hot” your mind immediately goes to “and some sweat when the heat is on.”  Well although this is a song I like, I’m not exactly going down that road with today’s blog.  I’m heading to what is hot when you come to Garner in the summer.  First and of course, it’s the weather which is why many of you blast by the town on the way to the mountains or the beach. But, it’s ok to sweat a little bit and have a central North Carolina experience. Let me entice you with some fun summer options that will give you a reason to play when the heat is on.

Orange butterfly weed.First, there are so many hot artists coming to concert venues this summer. Check out the schedules at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek, Red Hat Amphitheater and PNC Arena. Garner also knows how to bring in the heat because we have Lorraine’s Coffee House and Music, Garner Performing Arts Center and Zin Yoga and Wine who bring regional artists to their more intimate venues.

Downtown Garner is a hot little town with lots of options for being outside to play.  Join one of our many events that close down Main Street for food, fun and music the whole family can enjoy. June 21st Market on Main from 6:00-10:00 and July 19th the Food Truck Rodeo 6:00-10:00 will bring you lots of food options, music and craft vendors. August has two events planned with another Market on Main August 16th and a new Saturday afternoon experience on Aug. 31st, 12:00-4:00 called Got To Be Garner. If you think that’s not enough to keep you busy know that our local businesses will also be open during events with their own tasty treats, merchandise and just about any kind of cool drink you could desire.

Red cabooseIf supporting local causes is important to you the Garner Area Historical Society will be holding a Red Hot Caboose Tea on June 23rd at 2:00 to raise funds to renovate the interior of their caboose.  This fun event hosted by Banks Bed and Breakfast is sure to give you lots of tea (both hot and cold), sweet and savory snacks, fun activities and special surprises.  This is a fundraiser so get on the museums website at Garner Area Historical Society – GAHS (www.garner-area-historical-society.org) look under events and get your tickets to the Red Hot Caboose Tea and become a part of saving history and making it possible to open up the caboose for visitors. And if your plans are already set for the coast or the mountains, please jump on the website and make a donation today.  I know they will appreciate it even though we will miss seeing you that day.

Some like it hot and experiencing Garner is definitely one of the best locations to feel the heat!  Looking forward to seeing you and sharing our small town as we heat up the summer with plenty of fun!

PS- Also, good luck getting that song out of your head and to save you the google search Some Like it Hot was by The Power Station.
