Was that the school bell I just heard? The start of school means the fall weather is soon to come. That leaves many with beachtime memories and the need to stay local and see what’s up. Garner, NC has always been a handy town for those visiting the Raleigh area as it’s close to the city but with more of a small town feeling. In fact, at Banks Bed and Breakfast you can often hear me say we are a small town stay next to big city adventures. But, it’s important to know that Garner has much to offer too and you can spend time here and never have to worry about parking. In fact, parking here is free. So let me give you a run down of some of the fun things happening in Garner for the fall.
On Friday, September 18th, Kyle Mullins Band and Robert Hunter & Real Rowdy will be performing for free (there’s that word again). The concert will be in downtown Garner on the lawn of the recreation center and is our last free concert of the season. Bring your chair or blanket and enjoy the concert which starts at 6:30 in the evening. Also, you will be surrounded by vendors and food trucks to meet your dietary needs and desires. There is not much better than a fall evening, good music and great food and drink options. If sitting outside isn’t your thing then plan to attend Bad Momz Are Back at the Garner Performing Arts Center GPAC starting at 7:30 on that same evening.
September is also the time for visiting our downtown businesses. Two of which are listed as Certified NC Destination Businesses on the Main to Main Trail. Certified NC Destination Businesses are located in designated Main Street communities throughout North Carolina. Banks Bed and Breakfast and Steep Right Up are Garner’s certified Destination Businesses. Banks Bed and Breakfast is the only 1897 stay located on North Carolina’s first paved highway. Steep Right Up is North Carolina’s only tea shop with TRAIN view seating. In addition to these two great businesses make your way to Full Bloom Coffee, Nana’s Lil Sweets, Locs, Naturals and More , Petal to Pedal and Shady’s Bar. If you’re looking for a wonderful place to get married then you must check out The Distillery located right off Main Street.
Art is everywhere in Garner from the streets, to the buildings and even wrapped around utility boxes. Keep your eyes open for beautiful sculptures that are starting to show up in parks and yards. If you are thinking about a need for art signs then look no further than Grafixhouse also located on Main Street as they can create the message of your dreams.
The Garner History Museum is where you can explore exhibits that explain how Garner came to be. There is no better way to experience a small town than to explore its local museum. Make sure you check out their newly restored Caboose, right on the grounds.
If you are ready to dig deep into small town life then plan your fall visit today to Historic Downtown Garner, North Carolina.
